At first, the hair is white. The cells in our hair follicles known as “Melanocytes” produce pigments the main one being called Melanin, this gives our hair its original color.
Normally, the more melanin you have, the darker the hair color; the less melanin you have, the lighter the hair color as well.
When these Melanocytes cease generating this vital pigment the result is a transparent and that is when you start seeing gray.

If your mom, dad or anyone in your family went Gray at a young age then the chances are you may also suffer from similar predicament. This is not always the case though as there are exceptions. Age does play a large part in the graying process too. The pigment in the hair shaft is produced from cells at the base of the root of the hair and as we get older these cells start generating less pigment until there is no pigment at all and that is when the hair starts producing only gray.
